This page is dedicated to educational tools that will aid in mobile learning.  This page is divided into two sections: Non-Apps (tools that you don't use as a mobile app) and Apps (tools that are available as mobile apps).  If you see something that interests you, click on the link for more information. 

Non-Apps

App Inventor - lets you develop applications for Android phones using a web browser and either a connected phone or emulator.

     

PollEverywhere - Increase classroom interaction with this website and app.  Students can either download the app or they can respond via texting.

     

Remind 101 - A safe way for teachers to text message students and keep in touch with parents.

    

Apps

ClassDojo - This is a classroom tool (web & app) that helps teachers improve behavior in their classrooms quickly & easily.  It also captures & generates data on behavior that teachers can share with parents & administrators.  Better learning behaviors, smoother lessons and hassle-free data - and its free!

     

Discovery Agents - a games-based learning platform where teachers can design their own location-based game.  Combine a field trip and game to get engagment, motivation, interaction, and contextual learning for your students.

     

Dropbox - cloud storage that keeps your files up-to-date across multiple devices and stay in sync with your team, your friends, and your family, effortlessly.

     

Edmodo - provides a safe and easy way for your class to connect and collaborate, share content, and access homework, grades and school notices.

     

Evernote - captures everything: save your ideas, things you like, things you hear, and things you see.  Access anywhere – Evernote works with nearly every computer, phone, and mobile device out there.  Find things fast – search by keyword, tag, or even printed and handwritten text inside images.

     

Flashcardlet (Apple devices only) - this is a free, easy-to-use studying application with material for any class or standardized test.  You can also create and share your own.  It is the best way to study on any iOS device.

     

Flashcards by Brainscape (Apple devices only) - you can add your own flashcards on your iPhone/iPad or build them online and download to your device.

     

Gaggle - a social media-type app that allows communication, collaboration, and social learning within a safe and secure environment.

     

Google Drive - get started with 5GB for free to safely keep all your stuff in one place and then access it from any device, anywhere.  Store documents, pictures, or other files – even the big ones – using Google Drive and easily share them with anyone.

     

iBrainstorm (Apple devices only) - capturing and sharing your inner most creative genius has never been easier.  Introducing the first multi-device collaboration tool from Universal Mind.

     

iPadio (available in Android phones and iPhones) - broadcast live to the web from a phone.  This app takes any phone call and streams it live on web or records to make phone casts and phlogs.

    

iTunes U (Apple devices only) - this app gives you access to complete courses from leading universities and other schools – plus the world’s largest digital catalog of free education content.

     

Khan Academy - allows you to learn almost anything for free.  We cover a massive number of topics, including K-12 math, science topics, such as biology, chemistry, and physics, and even the humanities with playlists on finance and history.

     

Learnist - described as "a Pinterest for education." This website/mobile app contains published lessons by everyday people on how to do anything. Learn to bake a cake, do better yoga, all about dinosaurs, what is the milky way, and so on. For kids and adults, students and teachers, essentially everyone.

     

Mad Pad - remix your life with MadPad! Turn everyday sights and sounds like your car, an empty soda can, or your friends into the ultimate percussive instrument. Oh the possibilities! Woosh, boom, clap…anything can be music. Just aim the camera and shoot the sounds all around you: your local café, car, kitchen, kids, cat, friends… MadPad magic will take care of the rest. Or have fun playing with the hundreds of free premade sets.

     

Mastery Connect - mastery learning made simple: identify levels of understanding, target students for intervention, and improve learning and instruction; assess & track mastery of state and Common Core standards, pin, share, and upload resources aligned to standards; share & discover common assessments in a global professional learning community; and, save time with instant grading tools.

    

Mobl21 - this app is an access point for the educational assets that are built and published for student use on the Mobl21 system.  This system is designed to allow educators to create assets from core curriculum that are designed to extend learning beyond the classroom and parents to participate in learning activities.

     

Nearpod (iPad only) - an all-in-one solution for the synchronized use of iPads in the classroom.

     

PaperPort Notes - a digital note taking tool that is transforming the way people create and share information.  Now you can combine documents, web content, audio, typed text as well as hand written notes into a single document that you can easily organize and share with anyone.

     

Pearltrees - a free, visual, and collaborative library that lets you keep everything you like at your fingertips.  Its unique interface lets you organize and retrieve your favorite web pages, photos, and notes – even offline.

     

Pocket (formerly Read-It-Later) - put articles, videos, or pretty much anything into Pocket.  Save directly from your browser or from apps like Twitter, Flipboard, Pulse, and Zite.

     

Quizlet - this is a free, fun, and beautifully simple way to study using mobile devices.  Seamless syncing means all your Quizlet study sets are ready to use or search Quizlet’s database of over 15 million flash card sets to find content already created.

     

Schooloogy - the ultimate way to manage lessons, engage students, share content, and connect with other educators.

     

Scribble Press - a book creation platform that allows kids to create and share their own stories with hundreds of great drawing and writing tools.

     

Shadow Puppet EDU (Apple app) - easily create videos in the classroom!  Students as young as five can make videos to tell stories, explain ideas, or document their learning.

     

ShowMe is an iPad app that allows you to create lessons or watch previously made lessons for free.  ShowMe is a global learning community - a place where anyone can learn or teach anything.

     

Socrative - a smart student response system that empowers teachers to engage their classrooms through a series of educational exercises and games via mobile devices.

     

Studies - Studies is a flashcard app for the serious student. It's a tool to extend your knowledge, and it doesn't matter what it is you want to learn — medicine, law, history, driving, aviation, fine art, music, or martial arts — from simple day-to-day tidbits, to knowledge of life changing importance. Studies is an app to help you achieve your learning goals.

         

StudyDroid Flashcards (Android only) - puts the flashcards right in your pocket.  Create cards online or on your phone, then sync them.  Never lose your flashcards again.

     

TED – riveting talks by remarkable people, free to the world.  TED presents talks from some of the world’s most fascinating people: education radicals, tech geniuses, medical mavericks, business gurus and music legends.  Find more than 1,100 TEDTalk videos (with more added each week) on the official TED app.

     

VoiceThread - create dynamic conversations around documents, snapshots, diagrams and videos, on your iphone, iPad, and iPod touch.

     

Wolfram Alpha - remember the Star Trek computer?  It’s finally happening with Wolfram Alpha, the world’s definitive source for instant expert knowledge and computation.  Unlike a search engine which gives you websites to read when you pose a question, Wolfram Alpha uses a collection of algorithms and data to compute answers and generate reports to you.
